Welcome to 6th grade Enrichment Language Arts 2nd hour
Course Description:
This course is divided up into two components: Reading comprehension and Writing. Reading comprehension will be taught through a series of novels in which the focus will be on vocabulary, comprehension skills. Writing skills will be taught through an understanding of how to write a 5 paragraph essay including an introduction, 3 main body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. All paragraphs will be developed with an attention getting statement, a focus statement, and 3 supporting details.
Class Expectations:
The students are required to come prepared to class everyday. A silent reading book is required everyday in this class. We will go to the library every other week for book check out. The student must fill out their agenda daily. If they are absent, they are required to copy the previous day's agenda and check the absent folder. We also do a daily bell ringer which covers a variety of grammar and spelling skills. The class will be structured so that students can participate in whole-group instruction, independent practice and cooperative learning with partners or in small groups.
Grading:
Students will be graded on in-class assignments (some of which may need to be completed at home) tests, quizzes, and projects. Monday is paper pass back and students are required to fill in the assignment grade sheets so they are aware of their own progress. Parents are encouraged to utilize the parent portal for grade updates and also look at the student's agenda for class activities, homework, and teacher notes.

We are beginning a unit on adjectives We finished our novel study of Winn Dixie. After mid-terms, we will begin an interactive writing notebooks and small reading groups
